My primary research program investigates the social psychological factors involved in the production and comprehension of language. This includes research on social psychological variables impacting how speakers phrase their remarks, particularly in terms of politeness and/or indirectness, as well as the manner in which social psychological variables impact how hearers comprehend, remember, and interpret remarks. Additionally, related research involves the role of language in person perception and attribution, the wording of survey questions, and persuasion. I have secondary research interests in social desirability processes, gambling and risk taking, and personality and information processing.
